Twenty-eight competitors have been confirmed thus far for main show participation in the April weekend events.
1. SHIMMER Champion MsChif
"Your Soul's Tormentor" MsChif captured the SHIMMER Championship on April 26, 2008 by defeating Sara Del Rey in the main event of Vol. 18. In the time since, she has been a marked woman, with all of the competitors on the roster gunning for her title, and the chance to boast of being the woman that put an end to the Reign of Torment. MsChif has successfully defended the SHIMMER Championship not only in SHIMMER, but also on cards promoted by Ring of Honor and Full Impact Pro. She has put away challengers Del Rey, Jetta, Mercedes Martinez, Rain, Daizee Haze, Ariel, Serena Deeb, Wesna Busic, LuFisto, Nikki Roxx, and became the first woman in SHIMMER history to pin Amazing Kong. MsChif faces a very difficult challenge come April, as she attempts to make it through four DVDs during the course of the weekend and walk away with the SHIMMER Championship still around her waist. Can the Reign of Torment make it to the two year mark, or will someone on the SHIMMER roster make history by becoming the 3rd SHIMMER Champion?
2. SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Portia Perez
Portia Perez returns to SHIMMER competition during April, after being forced to miss the Vols. 27 & 28 tapings due to being sidelined with the Swine Flu, or so she claimed. Allison Danger is one of those who questioned the validity of Portia's illness, declaring that she was simply ducking another fight with Danger, and was afraid to be a fighting champion with her SHIMMER Tag Team Championship partner Nicole Matthews. In Portia's absence, Nicole sent a message to Danger on Vol. 28 by cracking her in the head with one of the title belts, on Perez's instructions. With the issue between Portia and Allison still unresolved, as well as the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship to be defended, Perez will be one frickin' busy ninja come April 10th & 11th.
3. SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Nicole Matthews
Nicole Matthews is unquestionably one of the top rising stars in women's professional wrestling today. She has been able to not only achieve success in the tag team ranks by becoming the 2nd SHIMMER Tag Team Champions as part of "The Canadian Ninjas" with partner Portia Perez, but has simultaneously become a breakout star in singles action as well. Nicole's series of matches against Daizee Haze displayed her rapid development as a competitor, which then continued with a tough battle against Cheerleader Melissa. Both of the Ninjas have the task of making it through the April tapings as SHIMMER Tag Team Champions, while also maintaining their respective positions in the singles picture.
4. Cheerleader Melissa
Cheerleader Melissa is one of the rare few to have participated in every SHIMMER event to date, and is, without a doubt, one of the most skilled female wrestlers on the planet. Having achieved worldwide success in this industry, Melissa continues to show her dedication to SHIMMER, and the sport in general, by giving 110% every time she steps into the squared circle. After concluding a several year long rivalry with Wesna Busic in a very physical Knockout or Submission bout on Vol. 26, Melissa continued her winning ways at SHIMMER's 4th Anniversary Celebration tapings. What is next on Melissa's agenda?
5. "Dark Angel" Sarah Stock
"Dark Angel" Sarah Stock made an immediate impact in SHIMMER upon her dramatic arrival in June of 2007. Stock was the International Wildcard competitor in the SHIMMER Title Tournament, shocking many by defeating SHIMMER main event stars Cheerleader Melissa and MsChif during her first and second round bouts. Stock later fell to eventual tournament winner Sara Del Rey in the third round, just seconds before the expiration of the 20 minute time limit. Sarah had a memorable series of matches against Daizee Haze during subsequent outings, a hard fought 2 out of 3 falls rematch against Del Rey, and a classic rematch against Melissa. We're anxious to see "Dark Angel" back in the SHIMMER ring on both of the 4/10 and 4/11 events. What is on Sarah's agenda in SHIMMER during 2010? We're ready to find out.
6. Ayako Hamada
International superstar Ayako Hamada in many ways stole the show back at the SHIMMER 4th Anniversary Celebration in November of 2009. Hamada's SHIMMER debut contest against Mercedes Martinez displayed Ayako's technical wrestling proficiency, going hold for hold and strike for strike against one of SHIMMER's most skilled. The second competitor to sign for a match against Hamada was Sara Del Rey, who perhaps got more than she bargained for when she opted to introduce a steel chair into the contest, causing the referee to throw the rulebook out the window and delcare the bout No DQ! Hamada and Del Rey battled all over the Eagles Club using everything they could get their hands on, and giving the fans in attendance what many of them called one of the wildest matches in company history. After Ayako's second match at the "4th Anniversary Celebration" in November, the Berwyn crowd chanted, "Please come back!" They will get their wish on Sunday, 4/11, as Ayako Hamada will be back in SHIMMER competition (she is unavailable for 4/10 due to a prior commitment).
7. Madison Eagles
Madison Eagles is one of the most skilled and impressive additions to the SHIMMER roster within the past two years. After her initial arrival during late 2008 along with tag team partner Jessie McKay as "The Pink Ladies," Madison had two highly competitive singles outings during May of 2009 against Sara Del Rey and Mercedes Martinez. The matches were just a taste of what this nine year veteran of the sport brings to the squared circle. Lance Storm of www.StormWrestling.com wrote of the Madison Eagles vs. Sara Del Rey contest from Vol. 23 in an October 2009 web site commentary. Storm commented, "The best match I’ve seen on the DVD, so far, featured Sara Del Rey and Madison Eagles. I've met Sara a couple times doing ROH appearances so I’ve seen her work, but Madison Eagles I’d never even heard of before. This match blew me away. This match featured some of the best mat wrestling I've seen this side of Bryan Danielson. These girls were AWESOME, these girls can WRESLE. I CAN NOT praise this match or recommend this DVD enough." After being sidelined from Vols. 25-28, Madison Eagles makes her much anticipated return to SHIMMER action on April 10th & 11th in Berwyn!
8. Jessie McKay
One of the newer SHIMMER athletes who really started to come into her own during 2009 is Jessie McKay. Unquestionably, Jessie's breakout singles bout was her Vol. 25 match against Cheerleader Melissa, which caught the attention of everyone in attendance as she held her own against a main event level star in one-on-one competition, and nearly School Girl Crushed Melissa's head into the front row. McKay had another strong outing against Sara Del Rey on Vol. 27, displaying her rapid progression as a professional wrestler. "Everybody's Favorite Girlfriend" is determined to continue her climb up the SHIMMER ranks on April 10th & 11th.
Freelance star AYUMI KURIHARA, as well as S-Ovation Co. Ltd. talents HIROYO MATSUMOTO, MISAKI OHATA, and TOMOKA NAKAGAWA will make their United States debuts on events promoted by both SHIMMER and JAPW during the month of April 2010.
9. Ayumi Kurihara
AYUMI KURIHARA - Height: 5'5" Weight: 126 lbs. Hometown: Mitaka-shi, Tokyo, Japan. Pro Debut: April 2005.
10. Hiroyo Matsumoto
HIROYO MATSUMOTO - Height: 5'5" Weight: 154 lbs. Hometown: Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa, Japan. Pro Debut: July 2006.
11. Misaki Ohata
MISAKI OHATA - Height: 5'1" Weight: 119 lbs. Hometown: Sendai City, Miyagi, Japan. Pro Debut: October 2006.
12. Tomoka Nakagawa
TOMOKA NAKAGAWA - Height: 5'1" Weight: 128 lbs. Hometown: Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan. Pro Debut: January 2005.
13. Sara Del Rey
Former SHIMMER Champion Sara Del Rey was part of one of the most memorable matches in SHIMMER history at the "4th Anniversary Celebration" tapings against Ayako Hamada. Death Rey displayed during the course of that match just what she is capable of against one of the best world traveled stars to come out of Japan. Sara has yet to face any of the four additional joshi athletes who will be a part of the April SHIMMER events. Could she be looking to put her skills to the test against any of these rising stars from Japan?
14. Allison Danger
Allison Danger, who recently celebrated the first birthday of her daughter Kendall, is still in search of a measure of revenge against the individual who threatened her well being and that of her child just over a year ago, Portia Perez. With Perez absent from the "4th Anniversary Celebration" tapings with a suspect "H1N1 doctor's note" excuse, Danger settled for doing battle against Portia's tag team partner Nicole Matthews. Danger's night concluded with Matthews smacking Danger in the head with one of the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship belts. Matthews later declared that she did it at Portia's request. With both Ninjas back in Berwyn on April 10th & 11th, Danger has the opportunity to meet Perez face to face once again.
15. Daizee Haze
SHIMMER trainer Daizee Haze returns to active competition as a wrestler in SHIMMER action on April 10th & 11th, after serving in a troubleshooting referee capacity at our last set of tapings due to injury. The Haze has stated that she is hungry to get back into the mix against the top stars SHIMMER has to offer, with a particular interest in the joshi side of the locker room in April.
16. Mercedes Martinez
"The Latina Sensation" Mercedes Martinez is one of the women who truly put SHIMMER on the map during 2005 with her series of matches against Sara Del Rey. She has since gone on to have tremendous bouts against the likes of Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif, Amazing Kong, Serena Deeb, and Ayako Hamada, showing why she is considered one of the top female athletes worldwide. Though Mercedes has had opportunites at the SHIMMER Championship in the past, she has yet to achieve her goal of becoming the #1 woman in SHIMMER competition. Could April be Mercedes' time to capture the gold? She must position herself for another title shot first in order to do so.
17. Kellie Skater
Bacchus Marsh, Australia's "Rate Tank" Kellie Skater made her arrival in SHIMMER during 2009 and immediately took the microphone and proclaimed to everyone who would listen that she is indestructible. Despite her relatively small frame in comparison to some of the more powerful athletes on the SHIMMER roster, Skater's warped frame of mind has earned her some very tough opponents thus far during her SHIMMER tenure, including LuFisto and Cheerleader Melissa. Come April 10th & 11th, The Rate Tank looks to add more wins to her SHIMMER record, amdist an ever-growing roster of talent from around the globe.
18. Jamilia Craft
"Jumping" Jamilia Craft is the youngest graduate of the SHIMMER Wrestling Academy. Under the instruction of SHIMMER trainer Daizee Haze, Jamilia has been training regularly alongside the men at the Ring of Honor facility in Bristol, PA to prepare herself for active competition. Craft put in a strong showing during a recent non-title bout against SHIMMER Champion MsChif at the debut event for Pro Wrestling RESPECT in Burlington, NJ. On April 10th & 11th, Jamilia's hard work and dedication pays off, as she officially becomes a part of the SHIMMER roster.
19. Nikki Roxx
Boston native Nikki Roxx is an athlete who climbed the ranks in SHIMMER from opening match status to the main event level. Bouts against such competitors as Amazing Kong, Lacey, Malia Hosaka, and Sara Del Rey helped establish Nikki as a rising star during SHIMMER's first two years. After a brief hiatus to focus on competition elsewhere, Roxx returned to SHIMMER during mid-2008 better than ever, and in many ways has become a locker room leader and role model for the younger athletes on the roster. As part of SHIMMER's "4th Anniversary Celebration" tapings, Nikki had two tough challenges in singles outings against MsChif and Wesna Busic. On April 10th & 11th, Nikki looks to not only continue to make her presence felt in the singles picture, but also to become more of a threat in the tag team division.
20. Ariel
"The Portuguese Princess" Ariel was one of the original eighteen women who helped launch SHIMMER during the winter of 2005. In the years that followed, Ariel gained enough momentum to put her into SHIMMER Title contention in late 2008. Ariel scored key victories against the likes of Amazing Kong (via DQ), Nikki Roxx, and Cheerleader Melissa to propel her to a title shot. During 2009, Ariel and Roxx formed a tag team based on their rich history as both friends and rivals on the New England wrestling scene. The team proved to be successful, as the pair handed The Experience a rare tag team loss during their last tag team outing. Both Ariel and Nikki have made it known within the SHIMMER ranks that they intend to continue their winning ways as a combination during 2010.
21. Daffney
"The Scream Queen" Daffney underwent a bit of a transformation at the SHIMMER "4th Anniversary Celebration" tapings. Though everyone always knew there was a dark side to Daffney, ever since her arrival in SHIMMER, she had always displayed a more playful personality, despite the numerous injuries which plagued her progress within the SHIMMER ranks. As the tag team partner of Rachel Summerlyn on Vol. 27, Daffney made the baffling decision to walk out on their match and abandon Rachel. When Summerlyn asked for an explanation on Vol. 28, Daffney belittled her former protege on the microphone and proceeded to viciously attack her, requiring several referees to pull her away. On 4/11 in Berwyn, Daffney will be in action (she is unable to appear on 4/10 due to a prior commitment).
22. Rachel Summerlyn
Rachel Summerlyn has unfinished business with her former mentor come April. Last time in front of the Berwyn crowd, Daffney told Rachel that when she took her under her wing prior to Rachel's debut in SHIMMER, "All you knew was thumbtacks and light tubes." She said that Summerlyn asked her to teach her how to wrestle. "I tried... but I guess I didn't do a good job," Daffney added before viciously assaulting Rachel. Daffney offered the parting words of, "You'll always be a rookie," before returning to the locker room. Summerlyn left the ring in dismay, and certainly has a score to settle with Daffney in April. Rachel will be on both the April 10th and April 11th events.
23. Tenille
Australia's Tenille has spent the past year traveling back and forth between her homeland, Canada, and the United States, while gaining valuable ring experience every step of the way. A graduate of Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Tenille had her hands full with the International Home Wrecking Crew in a series of matches during 2009, as well as being on the opposite side of bouts with veteran Malia Hosaka. Tenille has achieved recent success in the Vancouver area, and looks to do the same in SHIMMER action on April 10th & 11th in Berwyn.
24. Melanie Cruise
The six foot tall Melanie Cruise is an athlete with worlds of potential. Though still in the early stages of her career, this young rising star has the size and strength to be a dominant force in professional wrestling. During 2009, Cruise was recruited by Annie Social, who paired Melanie with "The Croatian Panther" Wesna Busic, confident that Wesna's instruction would mold Cruise into a dangerous threat. On the heels of two victories at the "4th Anniversary Celebration" tapings, we will soon find out what Melanie has in store for the women on the SHIMMER roster in April.
25. Annie Social
Annie Social made her way to SHIMMER with the goal of making money. Despite being a wrestler herself, Social chose to enter SHIMMER in a managerial role, in an effort to achieve success while not getting her own hands dirty. Annie signed both Melanie Cruise and Wesna Busic to management contracts, and guided Wesna to the victories that earned her a SHIMMER title shot. Along the way, Social drew the ire of virutally every person in the Berwyn Eagles Club, and became one of the most hated women ever to step through the curtain. More importantly, she became a thorn in the side of Cheerleader Melissa, who laid Social out with the Air Raid Crash on Vol. 26. After being absent from ringside for her wrestlers on 27 and 28, and with Wesna now sidelined indefinitely with injuries, Annie Social has made it known that she will become a physical presence once again in April. Social has stated that she will not only return to the side of her charge Melanie Cruise, but when the time is right, has no problem stepping into the SHIMMER ring to mix it up as a wrestler as well.
26. Nevaeh
Former SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Nevaeh will face a new challenge in her SHIMMER tenure on April 10th & 11th. Ever since her Vol. 17 SHIMMER debut match, Nevaeh has been a part of the tag team scene. That devotion to tag team wrestling paid off when she became 1/2 of the inaugural SHIMMER Tag Team Champions. Come April, with usual partner Ashley Lane absent due to other obligations, we will see how Nevaeh fares as a singles competitor in SHIMMER for the very first time.
27. Malia Hosaka
Malia Hosaka has enjoyed great success as a tag team wrestler as well, along with partner Lexie Fyfe. Though Lexie has been M.I.A. as of late, she was there in spirit (on a stick) at the SHIMMER "4th Anniversary Celebration" tapings, as Malia competed solo. Will we see Lexie (in either human or cardboard form) back at Malia's side in April, or will Hosaka show what her unmatched ring experience can do for her singles career once again?
28. Cat Power
Cat Power is an athlete with her sites set on the top of the card. At our last set of tapings, Cat avenged the loss suffered during her Vol. 18 SHIMMER debut, and gave a main event level star quite a fight, all in an effort to display that she is a force to be reckoned with. On April 10th & 11th, Cat Power tries to claw even higher up the SHIMMER ranks.

SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES presented its "4th Anniversary Celebration" on Sunday, November 8, 2009 before a sold out Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL. Volumes 27 & 28 of the SHIMMER DVD series were filmed during the course of the taping. Here's what went down...
SPARKLE (pre-show)
1. SHIMMER Tag Team Champion NICOLE MATTHEWS defeated SKILLED DEATH ARTIST #2 after hitting Last Rites on the masked competitor. Matthews saw what appeared to be someone dressed as a ninja enter the ring, and came out to object on the microphone. Matthews shouted "Ninja please," and agreed to fight on the pre-show to demonstrate what happens to people who are guilty of gimmick infringement.
2. KACEY DIAMOND & SASSY STEPHIE (w/ Mademoiselle Rachelle) defeated KIMBERLY KASH & LEVA BATES in a tag team contest. Stephie and Kash made their return to SPARKLE competition here. The French Canadian Kacey made her way to SPARKLE from the NCW Femmes Fatales promotion in Montreal, while Leva is a newcomer out of the state of Florida who appears for Full Impact Pro.
Prior to the start of the DVD taping, a new SHIMMER highlight video produced by Nicholas Andrews premiered on the video screen, titled "Revolution in Four." It can be viewed online at the top of this page.
SHIMMER VOLUME 27
One of the women who has been a part of SHIMMER from day one, NIKKI ROXX, opened the show with a video segment taped outside the Eagles Club prior to the event. Nikki recapped her history with the company, working her way up from the preliminary ranks to main event status, and then taking a hiatus from SHIMMER competition. Since returning to the company, Nikki has done battle with some of the newer additions to the roster, and said that tonight she has been given the opportunity to prove that she still belongs at the top of the card. Roxx stated that tonight she would end the year and a half long reign of MsCHIF as SHIMMER Champion.
1. MALIA HOSAKA defeated TENILLE after a Canadian backbreaker drop.
A segment was shown on the video screen of SHIMMER Tag Team Champion PORTIA PEREZ from her home, out sick with the Swine Flu. Perez read a note from her doctor prohibiting her from appearing on the show. ALLISON DANGER immediately came out to the ring and said Portia was lying about her illness, and was simply afraid to be a fighting champion and scared to get in the ring against her. Portia's partner NICOLE MATTHEWS came to the ring to defend Perez. While Danger had her back turned to the entrance, KELLIE SKATER took this as a cheap opportunity to jump Danger from behind. Referee PJ DRUMMOND hit the ring and called for the opening bell.
2. ALLISON DANGER defeated "The Rate Tank" KELLIE SKATER following the Old School Expulsion. The "indie-structible" Skater put up a strong fight against Danger, including an impressive exchange of chops, before falling to the SHIMMER veteran.
SHIMMER Correspondent AMBER GERTNER interviewed CAT POWER in the locker room. Cat said that she is in SHIMMER to be successful, and wants the strongest competition in the future. Cat said that she was embarrassed by ARIEL in her SHIMMER DVD debut match, and tonight she wanted a chance to even the score against her in a rematch.
DAIZEE HAZE was welcomed to the ring by the fans in attendance, and explained that she is currently sidelined with injury, after suffering nerve damage in her neck which has caused severe pain in her back. Though she may be out of the ring as an active wrestler, she remains a huge part of SHIMMER as the trainer of the SHIMMER course at the ROH Wrestling Academy, and offered to help out in any way possible. Senior referee BRYCE REMSBURG extended the offer of a Troubleshooting Referee position during her hiatus, and Daizee gladly accepted, promising to call everything right down the middle.
3. "The International Home Wrecking Crew" RAIN & JETTA (w/ Lacey) defeated RACHEL SUMMERLYN & DAFFNEY with a lungblower combo, followed by Jetta's stranglehold submission. Rachel began the match for her team, and ultimately, wrestled the entire match for her team, as the darker side of Daffney began to emerge in this one. At several points in the bout, a worn down Summerlyn was in position to tag Daffney in, but she would conveniently turn her back to Rachel just as she was close enough to tag her in. During the closing moments of the match, Daffney just hopped off the ring apron and walked back to the locker room, leaving a distraught Rachel all alone against the Home Wreckers.
4. CAT POWER defeated PORTUGUESE PRINCESS ARIEL with the Cat Nap, avenging the loss from Volume 18. This match saw DAIZEE HAZE's first appearance as a SHIMMER referee.
5. "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC & MELANIE CRUISE defeated ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH in tag team action with a double team variation of Melanie's Cruise Control slam. The Ohio tandem were able to hit their signature STO/Yakuza kick combo on Cruise, however Wesna broke up the pin attempt, and got the match back on track for her and her protege, leading to the victory.
LUFISTO appeared on the video screen in the locker room. She noted that she came up short in her title match on Volume 26 against MsCHIF, but that she learned from that match, and just needed one more opportunity at the title to become SHIMMER Champion. She said nobody else was as deserving of a title shot as her, and was immediately confronted by an agitated AMAZING KONG. Just as the two were about to fight, DAIZEE HAZE stepped between them and said that she has a peaceful solution to their tension. Daizee suggested that they face one another in a match, and assured them that she would personally see to it that the winner of the bout would receive a SHIMMER Championship match in the future.
6. CHEERLEADER MELISSA defeated SHIMMER Tag Team Champion NICOLE MATTHEWS following the Kudoh Driver. Matthews came to the ring carrying both of the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship belts, in her partner PORTIA PEREZ's absence. Melissa had the advantage in the early going, until Matthews delivered three hard kicks in the corner to Melissa's knee, and then relentlessly went after that body part. Melissa was able to survive Matthews' signature lariat, but was able to counter out of a Last Rites attempt and nail Nicole with the devastating Kudoh Driver for the three count. On the heels of Matthews' singles outings against Daizee Haze on recent DVDs, this was another strong showing for Nicole in one-on-one competition against one of SHIMMER's best.
7. SARA DEL REY defeated "Everybody's Favorite Girlfriend" JESSIE McKAY via submission with a jujigatame. Del Rey focused on McKay's arm for the duration of the bout. Jessie held her own with Del Rey, including busting out the School Girl Crush for a close nearfall during the closing moments. Post-match, McKay received a standing ovation from the fans in attendance for her efforts.
8. AMAZING KONG battled "Super Hardcore Anime" LUFISTO to a double countout. Both wrestlers brawled through the crowd and out the back door of the building. During entrances for the next match, they once again fought through the crowd, back toward the ringside area, and then back to the locker room, with referees and wrestlers trying to break it up as the fans chanted "Let them fight!"
9. In her SHIMMER debut, AYAKO HAMADA defeated "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ following a 2nd rope Hama-Chan Cutter. The bout was a fifteen minute mix of hard hitting strikes and technical wrestling, showcasing the pure wrestling side of Ayako's repertoire.
10. SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF defeated NIKKI ROXX following the Desecrater to retain the title (her twelfth defense). The fans in attendance showed their support for both women for the duration of the match, wrestled with good sportsmanship shown by both athletes. Nikki was able to kick out of MsChif's 2nd rope Death Valley Driver, but failed to hit the Barbie Crusher before falling victim to the Desecrater.
Heading into intermission, DAIZEE HAZE announced that due to the double countout between LUFISTO and AMAZING KONG resulting in no clear winner between the two, for the first time ever, the SHIMMER Championship would be defended in a Three-Way Elimination Match, as they would both face MsCHIF for the belt in the main event of Volume 28.
SHIMMER VOLUME 28
1. PORTUGUESE PRINCESS ARIEL defeated MALIA HOSAKA following the Dariel. Shenanigans ensued during this one, including Hosaka's "second" Lexie Fyfe On A Stick (a cutout artist's rendering of her on a pole) being "ejected from ringside" by the referee.
2. MELANIE CRUISE made short work of KIMBERLY KASH, scoring the pinfall after hitting Cruise Control.
3. ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH got back on the winning track by scoring the victory against KACEY DIAMOND & SASSY STEPHIE (w/ Mademoiselle Rachelle) following the STO/Yakuza kick combo on Stephie.
SHIMMER Correspondent AMBER GERTNER interviewed CHEERLEADER MELISSA in the locker room. Melissa said that on the heels of two big victories, ending the feud against WESNA BUSIC with a knockout on Volume 26, and defeating 1/2 of the SHIMMER Tag Team Champions in NICOLE MATTHEWS on Volume 27, she is ready for bigger things. Before she could clarify what she had in mind, "The Rate Tank" KELLIE SKATER interrupted Melissa's interview by asking Amber when her interview time would be. Amber told her that she's not sure, and right now is Cheerleader Melissa's time. Skater asked "Cheerleader who?" She then proceeded to inform Melissa of her indie-structible Tank-like qualities. Melissa simply responded, "We'll see about that in the ring."
4. NIKKI ROXX defeated "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC with an O'Connor roll in a very even matchup between two skilled, well traveled wrestlers.
RACHEL SUMMERLYN came to the ring and expressed her confusion and disappointment on the microphone over what transpired on Volume 27 between DAFFNEY and herself. Rachel talked about how Daffney took her under her wing during her early period as a wrestler, and served as a mentor to her in the business. DAFFNEY came out in darker attire, said that she must not have done a very good job teaching Summerlyn, and then attacked her. A referee hit the ring and called for the opening bell for a match between them to begin.
5. RACHEL SUMMERLYN defeated DAFFNEY via disqualification when Daffney refused to break at the referee's five count. This wasn't much of an actual match at all, as it was simply Daffney in a quick rage dishing out punishment before the referee put an end to it. After the bell, Daffney continued to attack and choke Rachel until several referees pulled her out of the ring and escorted her back to the locker room. There is clearly more to be settled between these two women in the future.
6. "The International Home Wrecking Crew" RAIN & JETTA (w/ Lacey) defeated "Everybody's Favorite Girlfriend" JESSIE McKAY & TENILLE in a tag team bout.
7. CHEERLEADER MELISSA defeated "The Rate Tank" KELLIE SKATER following the Kudoh Driver. Skater showed virtually no fear getting in the face of Melissa prior to the match, and even grabbing her pompoms and mocking her. Whether it was toughness on Kellie's part or simply being delusional is up for debate, but her actions resulted in Melissa dishing out one of the most memorable beatings in SHIMMER thus far. Skater was slammed into the steel barricades a record setting number of times, before the action was brought back inside the ring. Kellie actually gained the upper hand on Melissa on a few occasions, but after attempting her Air Skater tight rope diving hurricanrana and simply being powerbombed for her trouble, The Rate Tank went down to Melissa's lethal Kudoh Driver.
8. "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ defeated CAT POWER after hitting the fisherman buster. Cat got her wish in top level competition after her victory against ARIEL on Volume 27. She put up a good fight against Mercedes, but in the end, one of the women who really put SHIMMER on the map four years ago scored the win.
9. SHIMMER Tag Team Champion NICOLE MATTHEWS defeated ALLISON DANGER after knocking her out with one of the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship belts. Late in the match, referee LAURA MATTANO was accidentally nailed in the corner by Danger as Matthews got out of the path of a running forearm. Troubleshooting referee DAIZEE HAZE slid into the ring to take over as official for the remainder of the bout. Given their history against one another, Matthews did take issue with Daizee right away, but continued the match. As she became frustrated that she couldn't put Allison away, Nicole retrieved one of the Tag Team belts from the corner and carried it to the center of the ring to use as a weapon. Daizee immediatelly took it out of her hands and went to place the belt outside of the ring, leaving her back turned to Matthews, who quickly grabbed the other Tag Team belt and nailed Danger with it before Daizee could see a thing. Daizee counted three and raised Matthews hand as the winner. Referee PJ DRUMMOND came to ringside to inform Daizee of what happened, but she said she didn't see it, and there was a three count, so her decision must stand. Post-match in the locker room, Matthews declared that she was carrying out PORTIA PEREZ's instructions by taking out Danger with the belt.
10. SARA DEL REY defeated AYAKO HAMADA with a piledriver in one of the wildest matches in SHIMMER's four year history. The match began with both women exchanging the advantage inside the ring, and Hamada getting the upper hand on Del Rey. A frustrated Sara left the ring, and headed to the locker room, only to return with a steel chair in hand. Sara wound up nailing Hamada with the chair, forcing SHIMMER senior official BRYCE REMSBURG to call for the bell. As he raised Hamada's hand for the disqualification victory, she told him she didn't want the match to end that way, and asked him to re-start it. Del Rey agreed to continue as well, and Remsburg declared the match would continue, but this time with no countout and no disqualification! Ayako immediately dropkicked Del Rey to the floor, and a crazy brawl ensued. Both women fought through the crowd around the entire Eagles Club, hurling chairs at one another and utilizing the steel barricades. Back inside the ring, Hamada gained the advantage, utilizing the steel chair herself, including a chairsault off the top rope for a close nearfall. Ayako went for the 2nd rope Hama-Chan Cutter, but Del Rey blocked the attempt. Sara was able to survive a Thunder Fire powerbomb, as well as the AP Cross Diamond. Hamada went for a second moonsault to try to put Sara away, but Del Rey got her feet up, immediately nailed Hamada with the Koppo Kick, and followed up with the piledriver (the first time she's used it in SHMMER since the finals of the Title Tournament in 2007) to finally put Ayako down for the three count.
11. SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF defeated "Super Hardcore Anime" LUFISTO and AMAZING KONG in a Three-Way Elimination Match to retain the title (her thirteenth defense). This was an eleven minute sprint, with all three women going for eliminations right off the bat in an attempt to narrow it down to a one-on-one fight for the SHIMMER Championship. Chif and LuFisto tried to join forces against Kong on a few occasions, but while some of their teamwork was effective, Kong's size and power outmatched their efforts in the end. LuFisto was the first woman eliminated from the match, after absorbing the Amazing Bomb and being pinned by Kong. It then became a question of who would walk out of SHIMMER's 4th Anniversary Celebration with the title. Would Kong pin Chif again (as she did on Volume 9) and become the third woman to hold the SHIMMER Championship, or would Chif somehow be able to survive against a woman who had never been pinned or made to submit in a SHIMMER ring? The closing moments of the match saw both women pull out all of their signature maneuvers. Kong nailed Chif with the Amazing Bomb, but Chif was able to kick out. MsChif got enough momentum to take Kong over with the Code Green for a close nearfall! As Kong was about to hit the Amazing Press off the ropes, Chif got back to her feet, and sent Kong soaring to the center of the ring with a top rope hurricanrana, for another close nearfall. Chif was able to hit the Desecrater on Kong, only for Kong to be the first woman to ever kick out of it in company history. Kong got Chif back up, this time for the Spiral variation of the Amazing Bomb (with which she pinned Chif on Volume 9), but Chif kicked out! Kong placed Chif on the top rope, and came charging into the corner. MsChif threw a kick, but Kong caught the kick, and threw Chif's leg over her shoulder. As Kong picked her up off the turnbuckle and carried her out of the corner, MsChif was able to trap Kong's arm, and grab her head for a huge elevated version of the Desecrater! Chif hooked the leg tightly and made history by becoming the first woman to pin Amazing Kong in SHIMMER! After the match, Kong got face to face with MsChif, but rather than continue to fight, she patted the champ on the shoulder in a sign of respect before exiting the ring and returning to the locker room as the fans celebrated MsChif's victory to close the show.
Photographers Gilda Pasquil, Walter Lippmann, Buddy LaMantia, and Ricky Havlik were in attendance, capturing the festivities on film for all to see. Look for galleries to be available from all four photographers at www.SHIMMERwrestling.com during the coming weeks.
A big thanks goes out to the staff and management of 39TEN Lounge in Lyons, IL for a very enjoyable SHIMMER afterparty! We look forward to a continued relationship with 39TEN in the future.

I got the very sad news late this afternoon that good friend and longtime Chicago area promoter Ed Chuman had passed away. Ed battled serious health issues for quite a while now, and had been in and out of the hospital. Despite his health setbacks, he had remained active on the wrestling scene as a board member of the National Wrestling Alliance, helping to both promote and co-promote events in the midwest to keep the NWA running in this region.
I first met Ed in about 1997 during his stint as "Dr. Sidney Hack" the chain smoking, alcoholic physician on Carmine DeSpirito's Mid American Wrestling in Milwaukee, and hanging around Ace Steel and Danny Dominion's old Steel Domain school in Chicago. I would steadily run into him at events during the years that followed. Ed always reminded me that I was the one who encouraged him to join the NWA initially, due to my tendency to talk up Dennis Coralluzzo all the time (Dennis gave me my break in wrestling in 1996 as a ring announcer). After joining the organization, Ed quickly became one of the more prominent figures behind the scenes in the NWA.
Ed did so much to help midwest area wrestlers get bookings around the country on shows run by other NWA promoters, and also ran his fair share of events himself here in this region, most notably at the rec center in Streamwood, IL. I'm glad to have been a part of a few of Ed's "SHOOOOOWS!!" the past few years. He opened many doors to Joey Eastman over the years as well, appeared as part of his Totally Tool Wrestling shows, and gave Joey the chance to learn from the promotional end in Streamwood as well.
Ed was always a big supporter of women's wrestling on the independent level. It was Ed who commissioned the NWA Midwest Women's Championship belt which went to Lacey in May of 2004 when she won the "Volcano Girls" tournament, which was co-promoted by Ed and IWA Mid-South. Chuman gave opportunities to wrestlers like Daizee Haze, MsChif, Josie, Mickie Knuckles, Amazing Kong, and Sara Del Rey as part of the NWA Midwest events in Streamwood. He also insisted that he recognize Sara's SHIMMER Championship on his shows at the time, even though we aren't a part of the NWA. He felt that it deserved to be showcased.
Whenever his health and schedule allowed, Ed was in the backstage area at the Eagles Club in Berwyn during SHIMMER tapings, supporting our efforts. He was always there to give me promoting advice along the way, and for that I will always be thankful. Ed was also partners with Reggie Parks and Rico Mann in their championship belt business, and was our connection to Reggie and Rico for getting all three of the SHIMMER belts crafted during 2007 and 2008.
Ed was a great supporter of the independents. Companies like Dysfunction's NWA Insanity/ICW in Milwaukee, the short lived Fight Sports Midwest in Indiana, and even CHIKARA when they made a stop in Streamwood, benefitted from Chuman's assistance.
During the past several months, Ed co-promoted a few NWA affiliated events in Illinois, which gave opportunites to female athletes Nicole Matthews and Tasha Simone against his NWA World Women's/Midwest Women's Champion MsChif. The last time I saw and spoke with Ed was in Princeton, IL the night that Tasha and Chif squared off. Ed was in great spirits, zipping around the venue on his scooter, cracking jokes like always.
Ed Chuman, you will be greatly missed by the entire SHIMMER crew, and the midwest pro wrestling community as a whole. I'll miss seeing you at the SHOOOOWS and heading to The View after ROH events in Chicago Ridge to catch up on the latest with the NWA and hear so many amusing stories. Thank you, Ed, for everything you did to help all of us out over the years, and for being one of the most entertaining personalities I've ever met!
Everyone at SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES would like to congratulate Serena Deeb on officially signing a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.
From the first day she stepped into a wrestling ring, it has always been Serena's goal to earn a job with WWE. Serena moved from Virginia to Kentucky on her own dime for the sole purpose of enrolling in the Ohio Valley Wrestling training program several years ago, and she has been a mainstay in the OVW women's division ever since.
Serena debuted for SHIMMER on May 21, 2006 as a last minute substitution when an opening on the lineup created an opportunity. During the three years that followed, Serena displayed tremendous drive, determination, and eagerness to constantly learn. She has always tried to improve her game, be it in SHIMMER competition, at OVW, or in her handful of appearances for Ring of Honor.
Despite OVW losing its status a WWE developmental territory last year, Serena remained focused on achieving her goal of impressing WWE officials enough to be given a chance. All of Serena's hard work has now paid off, as she will soon be relocating to Florida to start with WWE developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling.
Personally speaking, I feel that Serena Deeb is one of the top three female babyface talents in North America today. She's got unbelievable fire, and can project emotion better than most wrestlers of a similar age and experience level. These are essential attributes to go along with the sound athletic wrestling fundamentals which she also possesses. She's a complete package, and is perfect for television.
Serena's training at OVW not only prepared her quite well for professional wrestling in general, but also specifically for the style of wrestling which WWE is looking for. Serena's continued instruction at FCW will only sharpen her existing skills, in preparation for the next stage of her career.
The three match series between Serena and Sara Del Rey were truly breakout performances for her as a wrestler. I feel those matches excellently displayed Serena's unbelievable potential to become a star in this industry. In her outings several weeks ago at the SHIMMER Vols. 23-26 tapings in Chicago, Serena continued to show that she absolutely deserved the spot at the top of the card that she had worked her way into.
I'd like to thank Serena Deeb for all of her contributions to SHIMMER during the past three years. From all of the memorable matches, to sacrificing her car on the drive up for the SHIMMER Title Tournament weekend, Serena gave so much to our product. Though we'll greatly miss her at future tapings, Serena has now been given the chance of a lifetime-- to work her way to the top of her chosen profession.
Good luck, Serena... and congrats!
Dave Prazak
FULL RESULTS & RECAP OF MAY 2ND & 3RD, 2009 TAPINGS!
SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES returned to the Berwyn Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL on Saturday & Sunday, May 2nd & 3rd, to film Volumes 23-26 of the SHIMMER DVD series. Here's what went down...
Saturday, May 2nd
SPARKLE (pre-show)
1. RACHEL SUMMERLYN & RAYNA VON TASH (the first graduate of the SHIMMER Wrestling Academy) defeated SASSY STEPHIE & KIMBERLY KASH when Rayna rolled up Stephie for the pin. After the match, an angry Stephie shoved Kash and walked out on her.
Prior to the beginning of the main show, the new SHIMMER highlight video "One Shot" (produced by Nicholas Andrews) was shown on the video screen to the live crowd for the first time.
SHIMMER VOLUME 23
New SHIMMER Correspondent AMBER GERTNER caught ANNIE SOCIAL arriving at the venue in the parking lot. Social revealed that she is in SHIMMER to make money by managing someone straight to the top.
1. NIKKI ROXX defeated CAT POWER following the Barbie Crusher.
2. AMBER O'NEAL defeated the debuting TENILLE (trainee of Lance Storm and the second female graduate of Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary) via backslide with a bridge.
In the locker room, SHIMMER Correspondent AMBER GERTNER interviewed SERENA DEEB about her first scheduled main event match in SHIMMER, challenging MsCHIF for the SHIMMER Championship.
3. DAFFNEY defeated MELANIE CRUISE following Daff Knees. During the bout, ANNIE SOCIAL came to ringside, taking notes. After the match, Social helped Cruise back to the locker room.
4. SARA DEL REY defeated MADISON EAGLES following the Royal Butterfly. The first several minutes of the match displayed both women's chain wrestling skills, while the action got turned up several notches during the final moments as both women fought for the win. Though Madison was able to counter the first Royal Butterfly attempt into a Northern Lights Suplex, Del Rey was able to work Madison from Tilt-a-Whirl Suplex position into butterflying Madison's arms and planting her into the canvas for the three count.
In an interview taped inside the ring and an empty Eagles Club, SHIMMER Correspondent VALERIE MALONE interviewed SHIMMER Champion MsCHIF about her defense later in the show against SERENA DEEB.
5. LUFISTO defeated "The Rate Tank" KELLIE SKATER (also making her SHIMMER debut) following a Burning Hammer. Prior to the match, Skater ran her mouth on the microphone, proclaiming herself to be "virtually indie-structible," challenging anyone in the locker room to face her. LuFisto answered.
6. NICOLE MATTHEWS wrestled DAIZEE HAZE to a 20 minute time limit draw, in a match that earned a standing ovation from the fans in attendance. The final seconds of the bout saw both women battle for leverage in a rolling cradle as time expired. Fans chanted for five more minutes, but Matthews refused and returned to the locker room.
7. AMAZING KONG defeated "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ following the Amazing Bomb. This very hard hitting contest saw Kong become the first woman in SHIMMER to kick out of Mercedes' Fisherman Buster.
SHIMMER Correspondent AMBER GERTNER interviewed ALLISON DANGER in the ring. Danger discussed giving birth to her first child during the SHIMMER off season, and how she is now focused on getting revenge on PORTIA PEREZ in their upcoming Street Fight. Portia interrupted, and the two exchanged words face to face. Perez spat part of her chocolate chip cookie right in Danger's face, prompting a brawl which required several wrestlers and referees to pull the two women apart.
8. SHIMMER Tag Team Champions ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH defeated "The International Home Wrecking Crew" RAIN & JETTA (with LACEY) two falls to one in a Two out of Three Falls Match to retain the titles. Lacey revealed herself to be the other individual to receive a SHIMMER manager's license when she ran to ringside toward the end of the first fall, rolling over an inside cradle behind the referee's back to give the IHWC the victory in the first fall. The champions earned the second fall with an O'Connor Roll. The third fall saw the IHWC use a chain to score the pin, but referee P.J. DRUMMOND came to ringside and informed Senior Official BRYCE REMSBURG about it, who quickly found the chain, and ordered the match to be re-started. Ashley & Nevaeh soon after hit their STO/Yakuza Kick combo to score the pinfall and retain the titles.
9. "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC defeated CHEERLEADER MELISSA following the CB4 Driver. This match was the continuation of the rivalry which started in Europe several years ago, and caught wrestling fans' attention in ChickFight rings. During the closing minutes of the match, ANNIE SOCIAL came to ringside once again to scout talent, which served as a distraction for Melissa, who left the ring and got right in Social's face. This allowed Wesna time to recover inside the ring, and ultimately hit the CB4 Driver for the pin. After the match, Wesna celebrated with Social, as Annie declared on the microphone that she was taking Wesna to the top, and will make sure that Melissa never comes anywhere near a title shot.
10. SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF defeated SERENA DEEB following the Desecrater to retain the title (her ninth defense). Serena hit the Spear on MsChif, but the momentum sent Chif all the way to the floor, and Serena couldn't go for a cover. When she was finally able to drag her back inside the ring and go for the win, enough time had passed that MsChif was able to kick out. As MsChif went for the Desecrater, Serena was able to roll through the attempt, but Chif held on and continued to roll all the way back to a standing position to hit the maneuver and score the pin. SARA DEL REY entered the ring and got in MsChif's face, declaring she's coming to get "my belt" back. AMAZING KONG then approached the ring as well, indicating that she too wants the title. Kong attacked MsChif, and Del Rey joined in. CHEERLEADER MELISSA quickly hit the ring with a steel chair in hand to run off Del Rey and Kong.
SHIMMER VOLUME 24
In the locker room, LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA discussed how they, as the two wrestlers on the SHIMMER roster with the most ring time under their belts, would be facing the students of Lance Storm and Daizee Haze tonight, and planned on taking the students to school.
1. "The Rate Tank" KELLIE SKATER defeated "Everybody's Favorite Girlfriend" JESSIE McKAY with a cheap pinfall while holding Jessie's tights for leverage.
In the locker room, "The Canadian Ninjas" PORTIA PEREZ & NICOLE MATTHEWS discussed their respective singles matches scheduled for Volume 24. Matthews declared that DAIZEE HAZE wasn't able to beat her in 20 minutes, and now in the rematch she's going to knock a main eventer right out of the mix. Perez talked about how ALLISON DANGER needs to worry about her safety in their No Disqualification Street Fight, while shaking a wiffle bat, and then a hockey stick at the camera in a threatening manner.
2. "The Experience" LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA defeated TENILLE & RAYNA VON TASH after hitting the double team Gourdbuster on Rayna.
3. "Girl Dynamite" JENNIFER BLAKE defeated AMBER O'NEAL following a superkick to earn her first singles victory in SHIMMER competition.
SHIMMER Correspondent AMBER GERTNER interviewed SERENA DEEB in the locker room. They discussed SERENA's failed attempt at winning the SHIMMER Championship from MsChif on Volume 23, and what her plans are going forward. Serena said that she has faced one setback after another her entire career, and will do whatever it takes to get back on track, and work her way into another title shot in the future, so that one day she can achieve her goal of becoming SHIMMER Champion.
4. "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ defeated MADISON EAGLES following the Fisherman Buster in a very athletic, back and forth contest. After the match, Martinez praised Madison's wrestling skills and said she is someone to keep your eyes on as a potential future SHIMMER Champion.
In a locker room interview, SARA DEL REY & AMAZING KONG talked about how CHEERLEADER MELISSA got involved in their business with MsCHIF by hitting the ring on them with a steel chair, and now they want revenge. Del Rey said how she's coming for her belt back, which prompted Kong to take issue with Del Rey. Sara clarified that "everyone wants that title," and she and Kong are now united against a common target.
5. "The International Home Wrecking Crew" RAIN & JETTA (with LACEY) defeated NIKKI ROXX & "The Portuguese Princess" ARIEL when Jetta made Ariel submit to the Stranglehold Lungblower.
6. SERENA DEEB defeated CAT POWER after hitting the Spear.
SHIMMER Correspondent VALERIE MALONE interviewed SHIMMER Tag Team Champions ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH concerning the ramifications of the Volume 24 main event of SARA DEL REY & AMAZING KONG vs. MsCHIF & CHEERLEADER MELISSA. Not only is the bout a grudge match, but the winners would also get the next shot at the SHIMMER Tag Team Titles. Ashley & Nevaeh said that they've always been considered the underdogs, and despite the incredible odds, they intend on remaining the title holders against whichever team wins the main event, be it the undefeated tandem of MsChif & Melissa or the seemingly unstoppable duo of Del Rey & Kong. They said they would be watching the main event closely.
7. DAIZEE HAZE defeated NICOLE MATTHEWS in a No Time Limit Rematch from Volume 23. Late in the contest, Nicole's "Canadian Ninjas" tag team partner PORTIA PEREZ tried to interfere, but Daizee was still able to hit Nicole with the Mind Trip and score the pin. ALLISON DANGER began to brawl with Perez, leading straight into their scheduled match.
8. PORTIA PEREZ defeated ALLISON DANGER in a No Disqualification Street Fight when she choked Danger out with her yellow chain. Among the weapons utilized during the match were the yellow chain, a hockey stick, a cookie sheet, and a steel chair. Late in the match, NICOLE MATTHEWS took advantage of the No DQ stipulation and helped Perez, sending Danger right into Portia's Superkick. Perez then choked her out until Danger was unresponsive and the referee called for the bell. The two then continued the assault until DAIZEE HAZE hit the ring to run them off.
9. "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC (with ANNIE SOCIAL) defeated LUFISTO in a rematch from Volume 22 after hitting the CB4 Driver. Once again, Social gave an assist to Wesna, this time by pulling LuFisto's leg as she came off the ropes allowing the opening for Wesna to hit her finishing maneuver. With consecutive victories over the likes of CHEERLEADER MELISSA and LuFisto, Wesna was now in line for a title shot against MsChif.
10. SARA DEL REY & AMAZING KONG defeated SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF & CHEERLEADER MELISSA after over 20 minutes of action, when Del Rey pinned MsChif after Kong used Del Rey as a weapon, hitting the Implant Buster on her into a Splash on MsChif for the three count. Del Rey & Kong continued the beating after the bell, and were quickly joined by WESNA BUSIC. SHIMMER Tag Team Champions ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH hit the ring to try to make the save, but were immediately destroyed by Del Rey & Kong as well. The show concluded with Del Rey & Kong grabbing the SHIMMER Tag Team Title belts and holding them overhead, while Wesna did the same with the SHIMMER Championship, standing over the lifeless bodies of all the champions.
Sunday, May 3rd
SPARKLE (pre-show)
1. KIMBERLY KASH defeated SASSY STEPHIE after a Double Kneedrop off the top rope onto a prone Stephie.
SHIMMER VOLUME 25
In a segment taped prior to the show, ANNIE SOCIAL watched over a workout session with her new signees MELANIE CRUISE and "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC, along with several sparring partners. Social noted how she sees potential in Cruise due to her size, and she feels that Wesna is the right person to fine tune Melanie's skills and take her to the next level. Wesna proceeded to demonstrate to Cruise how to make several maneuvers more effective. Annie closed the segment by saying that she came to SHIMMER to make money, and in the main event, she would lead Wesna to the SHIMMER Championship against MsChif.
1. TENILLE defeated JETTA (with LACEY) with a quick sunset flip out of the corner to score the upset victory. Post-match, Lacey and RAIN assisted Jetta in working Tenille over, who fell victim to Lacey & Rain's double team Tomikaze before referees ordered all three Home Wreckers back to the locker room.
2. CAT POWER defeated "The Rate Tank" KELLIE SKATER & RACHEL SUMMERLYN & "The Portuguese Princess" ARIEL in a Four Corner Survival bout when she made Summerlyn tap out to a leglock.
3. NIKKI ROXX defeated MELANIE CRUISE (with ANNIE SOCIAL) following the Barbie Crusher.
4. RAIN (with LACEY) defeated "Girl Dynamite" JENNIFER BLAKE with Acid Rain (Japanese Ocean Cyclone Suplex).
5. CHEERLEADER MELISSA defeated "Everybody's Favorite Girlfriend" JESSIE McKAY after hitting the Kudoh Driver. During the course of the bout, McKay nailed Melissa with a sick School Girl Crush (Yakuza kick) which resulted in a nasty bruise under Melissa's eye. Despite falling victim to Melissa's most deadly maneuver, McKay earned the admiration of the fans in attendance as well as Melissa for a hard fought contest.
6. LUFISTO defeated AMBER O'NEAL via submission when O'Neal couldn't reach the ropes while locked in the Jujigatame.
7. DAIZEE HAZE & ALLISON DANGER defeated "The Canadian Ninjas" PORTIA PEREZ & NICOLE MATTHEWS when Danger pinned Perez after hitting the Old School Expulsion. Though Allison was able to get a measure of revenge on Portia by winning the match for her team, The Ninjas took Danger out once again after the bout, hanging her with the referee's belt and ultimately rendering her unable to compete on Volume 26.
8. SERENA DEEB defeated "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ with a Victory Roll as both women were exchanging quick nearfalls during the closing moments of the match. After the bout, Martinez shook Serena's hand in a sign of respect to the new main event level star.
9. SHIMMER Tag Team Champions ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH defeated SARA DEL REY & AMAZING KONG via disqualification to retain the titles. Del Rey & Kong took turns working over Nevaeh for the majority of the match, until she was finally able to make the tag to Ashley. Though they came close to scoring pinfalls on several occasions, the size and power of their opponents was just too much to keep down for a three count. Ashley was able to move out of the way of the double team Implant Buster/Splash attempt. Kong then focused on Nevaeh, brawling with her on the floor, and all the way back to the locker room, where Kong cracked her with a steel chair. Kong then returned to the ring with chair in hand and refused to let go of it, leaving referee P.J. DRUMMOND with no choice but to call for a disqualification. After the bell, Kong continued the assault, and hit the Implant Buster on Ashley, leading SERENA DEEB and MERCEDES MARTINEZ to come to Ashley's aid. Deeb got in the face of her rival Del Rey, while Martinez stared down Kong, until both Del Rey & Kong left the ring. Serena and Mercedes then helped carry Ashley back to the locker room.
10. SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF defeated "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC (with ANNIE SOCIAL) following the Desecrater to retain the title (her tenth defense). MsChif was able to brilliantly counter the CB4 Driver into the Code Green late in the contest, but was unable to score the pin. Wesna countered a Desecrater attempt, hitting MsChif with the Ki Crusher, only for Chif to kick out. Wesna then survived a second Code Green, but was eventually put down by the Desecrater.
SHIMMER VOLUME 26
1. JETTA (with LACEY) defeated DAFFNEY via submission with the Stranglehold Lungblower. This match was pure silliness!
In the locker room, SHIMMER Correspondent AMBER GERTNER interviewed CHEERLEADER MELISSA about her Knockout or Submission Match against WESNA BUSIC. Melissa blamed the loss in their Volume 23 bout on the distraction caused by ANNIE SOCIAL, and said tonight will be a different story. Melissa wondered "Do you know who I am?!" and dared Annie to get involved in her match again to see what happens to her.
2. DAIZEE HAZE defeated her trainee RAYNA VON TASH following the Mind Trip in a Teacher vs. Student match.
In a locker room interview, LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA talked about how they were able to easily dispose of two rookies in their last match, and now tonight they will put away two wrestlers who have been in SHIMMER since the beginning, NIKKI ROXX & ARIEL.
3. "Everybody's Favorite Girlfriend" JESSIE McKAY defeated "The Rate Tank" KELLIE SKATER & "Girl Dynamite" JENNIFER BLAKE & MELANIE CRUISE (with ANNIE SOCIAL) in a Four Corner Survival bout when she pinned Skater after hitting the Boyfriend Stealer (sitout Uranage). Moments earlier, Blake was able to nail Skater with the Superkick, but Cruise broke up the pin and fought to the floor with Blake, where Social sent "Girl Dynamite" into the steel barricade. Inside the ring, McKay battled with Skater and was able to score the pin, avenging her controversial loss to "The Rate Tank" from Volume 24.
In the locker room, LUFISTO caught SHIMMER Champion MsCHIF in the midst of applying her green eye makeup in preparation for her match later in the show. LuFisto began to ask a series of annoying questions, all of which prompted a quick answer of "yes" from the Champ. The last question of the bunch asked if MsChif would give LuFisto a title shot later in the show, which Chif also nonchalantly responded to with "yes." LuFisto quickly hugged MsChif and thanked her, and then ran away before Chif realized what she had just agreed to.
4. NIKKI ROXX & "The Portuguese Princess" ARIEL defeated "The Experience" LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA when Ariel pinned Lexie following the Dariel.
In the locker room, SHIMMER Correspondent VALERIE MALONE interviewed WESNA BUSIC and ANNIE SOCIAL about the Knockout or Submission Match later in the show against CHEERLEADER MELISSA. Annie said that if Melissa tries anything, she can hold her own as a wrestler too, but tonight Melissa had better not worry about her, she needs to worry about Wesna handing her another defeat.
5. RAIN (with LACEY) defeated TENILLE with Acid Rain in a grudge match based on what took place after Tenille's bout against Jetta on Volume 25.
In the backstage area, SHIMMER Tag Team Champions ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH talked about how they survived the unthinkable odds of SARA DEL REY & AMAZING KONG and still have the belts. They were interrupted by "The Canadian Ninjas" PORTIA PEREZ & NICOLE MATTHEWS, who said they were through taking out main eventers, and now they are coming after the SHIMMER Tag Team Titles. The champs reminded the Ninjas that they already gave them a title shot and defeated them, which prompted Portia & Nicole to physically attack them before walking off. As Ashley got back to her feet, she agreed to another match against the Ninjas in order to get some payback.
6. SARA DEL REY & AMAZING KONG defeated SERENA DEEB & "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ when Del Rey pinned Deeb following the double team Implant Buster/Splash.
7. CHEERLEADER MELISSA defeated "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC (with ANNIE SOCIAL) in a Knockout or Submission Match when Wesna couldn't answer the referee's ten count following a right hand from Melissa. After the match, Melissa nailed Social with the Air Raid Crash to the crowd's approval.
8. "The Canadian Ninjas" PORTIA PEREZ & NICOLE MATTHEWS defeated ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH with the Funky Cold Medina (Superkick/German Suplex combo) to become the second SHIMMER Tag Team Champions.
9. SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF defeated LUFISTO after the Desecrater to retain the title (her eleventh defense) and close the weekend of tapings. MsChif targeted LuFisto's back (known for being her biggest weakness) during the bout. This first time ever match anywhere in wrestling saw the crowd split 50/50 in support of their chosen wrestler.
Post-Taping Notes
Fans there live witnessed a total of 41 women's wrestling matches over the two days!
A total of 32 women wrestled during the course of the weekend, plus 2 female managers, 2 female interviewers, and 1 female referee appeared.
Oh, and there was also Joey Eastman, Bryce, Drummond, Gorie, and everyone's favorite referee Andy Long.
All of us at SHIMMER would like to thank each and every fan who bought a ticket to witness the Volumes 23-26 tapings live at the Berwyn Eagles Club. We had just under 200 paid each day, so we were short of a sellout. Given the current state of the economy, we know that you have to pick and choose how you spend your entertainment dollar these days, and we greatly appreciate your decision to spend your money on our product. It is only with the financial support of our fan base that we can continue to hold these live events, and then produce them for DVD release. Thank you!
MADISON EAGLES was sidelined from the May 3rd tapings due being under the weather (she usually towers over it). She has since returned to Australia and is feeling well. Madison had two fantastic matches on May 2nd against main event caliber talent, and we can't wait for her to return to SHIMMER competition in the future so she can pick up where she left off on Volume 24.
SHIMMER management was pleased with the debuts of new talents KELLIE SKATER, TENILLE, and RAYNA VON TASH. We are always on the lookout for new, young talent that SHIMMER can help give ring time, experience, and exposure to, and all three wrestlers are welcome back for future SHIMMER events. Each of these athletes have made plans to continue their respective training at various wrestling facilities around the world during the coming months, in preparation for an eventual return to the SHIMMER ring. We look forward to seeing what they have to offer in the future as they continue to develop as professional wrestlers.
Former SHIMMER star REBECCA KNOX was in Chicago several days prior to the SHIMMER tapings, and a brief interview segment was filmed with the Irish ex-wrestler discussing her departure from SHIMMER and the wrestling business in general. The interview segment will be included as a DVD Extra on one of the four releases filmed during the course of the weekend.
Photographers Gilda Pasquil, Walter Lippmann, Buddy LaMantia, and Ricky Havlik were in attendance for the duration of the weekend to capture everything on film. Look for full galleries from all four photographers to be placed online during the coming weeks.
For those who are curious, we do not have a next set of tapings scheduled as of yet. As our only "financial backing" is the sales of our product on DVD, we can only schedule a next set of tapings once enough money has been generated to pay for running them. We hope to be able to do so during early fall, if all goes well. Every dollar you spend on our product during the next several months will help enable us to run more shows and produce more DVDs.
We will be heading into production on Volume 23 as soon as the ROH production schedule permits, with the remaining three releases to be spaced out during the months that follow.
Spread the word about SHIMMER to your fellow wrestling fans! Thank you for your support.
FULL RESULTS & RECAP OF OCTOBER 19, 2008 TAPINGS!
SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES returned to the Berwyn Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL on Sunday, October 19, 2008. Volumes 21 & 22 of the SHIMMER DVD series were filmed during the course of the event. Here's what went down...
The first two women's bouts of the day consisted of SPARKLE pre-show tryout matches.
1. MELANIE CRUISE defeated CHERRY BOMB.
2. RACHEL SUMMERLYN defeated SASSY STEPHIE with the Texas Cloverleaf.
The first half of the main show portion of the taping consisted of matches which will comprise SHIMMER Volume 21.
Ring announcer JOEY EASTMAN welcomed the fans to the show and brought out SERENA DEEB for an in-ring interview. Serena stated that she's been in SHIMMER for over two years now, and it has always been her goal to climb to the top of the card and prove that she is championship material. After being forced out of the SHIMMER Title Tournament due to an auto accident on the day of the tourney, she said she has not lost focus of trying to earn a future opportunity at becoming SHIMMER Champion. Serena said that she gave it her all against SARA DEL REY during their match on Volume 20, but the physical punishment to her knee during the match prevented her from continuing to fight. Deeb asked for a rematch against Del Rey, to prove that she could pull out the win if given another chance. Del Rey came to the ring and said she's through wrestling against "bottom of the barrel" talent like Ariel and Serena, and the only thing that matters to her is regaining the SHIMMER Championship. Serena and Del Rey exchanged further words, prompting Del Rey to attack Serena. A referee slid into the ring and called for the opening bell.
1. SARA DEL REY defeated SERENA DEEB with the Royal Butterfly. Deeb put up a strong fight once again, but was outmatched by the brutality of Death Rey.
2. MISS NATURAL defeated LORELEI LEE. This was Natural's SHIMMER debut.
3. DAFFNEY defeated CAT POWER. Daffney grabbed the microphone prior to the match to call out Power, who was able to pull out the victory against Daffney on Volume 20, as a result of targeting Daffney's bad knee. Daffney said the knee is back to 100%, and ended every sentence with the word "meow" as she tried to lure Cat to the ring. Power accepted, wearing a cat mask on her entrance. During the course of the action, Daffney produced a ball of yarn and threw it across the ring, only for Cat to chase after it, among other silliness. In the end, Daffney was able to score her first SHIMMER victory!
4. NIKKI ROXX defeated DANYAH with the Barbie Crusher.
5. "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC defeated AMBER O'NEAL with the CB4 Driver. The SHIMMER fans in attendance gave Wesna a fantastic reception upon her return, while also taking great pleasure in heckling a quite intimidated and nervous O'Neal. Amber, much like in match against ALLISON DANGER on Volume 7, actually went strike for strike against her hard hitting opponent, which is not a side often seen from O'Neal. Ultimately, she fell victim to Wesna's CB4 Driver. This was the first win for The Croatian Panther in SHIMMER competition, after falling in her initial two outings.
6. The SHIMMER Tag Team Championship Gauntlet was next. Six teams drew numbers at random to determine the order of entry.
A. "The Canadian Ninjas" PORTIA PEREZ & NICOLE MATTHEWS defeated "The Pink Ladies" MADISON EAGLES & JESSIE McKAY with a superkick/German suplex double team combo.
B. "The Suicide Blondes" LUFISTO & JENNIFER BLAKE defeated "The Canadian Ninjas" PORTIA PEREZ & NICOLE MATTHEWS with a powerbomb/second rope lungblower double team maneuver.
C. "The International Home Wrecking Crew" RAIN & JETTA defeated "The Suicide Blondes" LUFISTO & JENNIFER BLAKE after Jetta knocked Blake out with a foreign object behind the referee's back.
D. ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH defeated "The International Home Wrecking Crew" RAIN & JETTA following their STO/Yakuza kick double team combo.
E. ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH defeated "The Experience" LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA with the STO/Yakuza kick combo to become the first SHIMMER Tag Team Champions!
The entire SHIMMER Tag Team Championship Gauntlet was 45 minutes in length.
7. "Portuguese Princess" ARIEL defeated CHEERLEADER MELISSA & AMAZING KONG & "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ in a Four Corner Survival Match to determine who would get a SHIMMER Title Match on Volume 22. Late in the contest, Martinez hit her signature fisherman buster on Melissa, but the pin attempt that followed was broken up. Martinez and Kong battled to the floor, as Ariel capitalized by following up on Melissa with the Dariel to lead to the pinfall, and #1 contender status for Volume 22.
8. SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF defeated DAIZEE HAZE to retain the SHIMMER Championship after hitting the Desecrator (her fourth defense since winning the belt). This was Daizee Haze's return to SHIMMER action after being forced to miss Volumes 19 & 20 due to a back injury. Prior to the injury, Haze had been on a SHIMMER winning streak. Haze had proven she could pin MsChif during the summer of 2007 on Volume 14 in Florida, so Chif granted Daizee this SHIMMER Title Match opportunity out of respect.
Volume 21 closed with a locker room promo by SERENA DEEB, who said that she is not going to let the Del Rey setback cause her to lose focus on working her way into title contention. Serena said she would face anyone on the roster necessary in order to prove herself, whether it be Cheerleader Melissa, Mercedes Martinez, Amazing Kong, or anyone else. MsCHIF interrupted, praising Serena's drive and determination, and her strong efforts against Del Rey, the woman who MsChif defeated to become champion. Chif told Serena that if she can beat Del Rey, she will give Serena a title shot any time she wants it. The two shook hands, and Serena thanked MsChif for the opportunity.
Following intermission, matches were taped which will comprise SHIMMER Volume 22.
1. RAIN of "The International Home Wrecking Crew" defeated DAFFNEY with the Acid Rain (Japanese Ocean Cyclone Suplex).
2. DANYAH defeated CAT POWER to earn her first SHIMMER victory.
3. AMAZING KONG defeated RACHEL SUMMERLYN following the Amazing Press.
New SHIMMER announce team member VALERIE MALONE introduced her guest ALLISON DANGER for an in-ring interview. Danger explained to the fans that after being sidelined for a second time due to PORTIA PEREZ re-injuring her collarbone on Volume 20, Danger decided to start working on the "next generation of SHIMMER stars" and is (quite visibly) pregnant. Danger said when she returns to wrestling next year, she has one thing on her mind, and that is payback for Perez. This brought Portia out to the ring, who began to berate Danger for "gaining weight." Words between the two got heated, and Portia commented that "We can do this right now," as senior official BRYCE REMSBURG began to look concerned for Danger's well being inside the ring. Perez declared that she would not only end Danger's wrestling career, but she'll "end something else right now," and went to hit the ropes to potentially attack Allison, but Bryce tackled Perez before she was able to do anything. Several referees immediately hit the ring and both held Portia off from getting anywhere near Danger, and quickly got Allison out of the ring and to safety. Perez and Danger both shouted at one another as they were held apart. The feud between these two competitors will certainly heat up in 2009 when Danger is back in condition to re-join the active roster.
4. "The Experience" LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA defeated "The Pink Ladies" MADISON EAGLES & JESSIE McKAY with the double team gourdbuster. The fans chanted "Please come back" for The Pink Ladies as they made their exit.
5. "The Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ defeated AMBER O'NEAL with the fisherman buster. Once again, O'Neal displayed her toughness by hanging with one of the heavy hitters on the SHIMMER roster.
6. CHEERLEADER MELISSA defeated "Girl Dynamite" JENNIFER BLAKE with the Air Raid Crash. This match saw the action go all around the ringside area, as Blake put up one hell of a fight against a main event level star.
7. DAIZEE HAZE defeated MISS NATURAL with the Heart Punch/Mind Trip combination.
VALERIE MALONE welcomed her next guest to the ring, SARA DEL REY. Sara angrily said that she saw the "agreement" between MsCHIF and SERENA DEEB at the end of Volume 21, but since she is a main eventer, she has someone else look over her contracts for her, and brought out "Sweet & Sour" LARRY SWEENEY. Sweeney said that he came to Berwyn simply to inform the fans that, as Sara's agent in Ring of Honor, he is negotiating to get her a rematch for the SHIMMER Championship, but it will happen in an ROH ring, rather than in front of the undeserving fans of Berwyn, IL at SHIMMER. He also stated that since Del Rey has already beaten Serena twice, there's no reason for her to wrestle on Volume 22, and suggested that she go back to the limo for some sushi and take the rest of the night off. Sweeney said he would never come back to Berwyn again.
8. JETTA of "The International Home Wrecking Crew" defeated NIKKI ROXX. As Nikki had Jetta up in position to go for the Barbie Crusher, Jetta raked Nikki's eyes and quickly rolled her into a small package for the pin.
9. SHIMMER Tag Team Champions ASHLEY LANE & NEVAEH defeated "The Canadian Ninjas" PORTIA PEREZ & NICOLE MATTHEWS with the STO/Yakuza kick combo to retain the belts.
10. LUFISTO defeated "The Croatian Panther" WESNA BUSIC with a burning hammer in a very physical International Dream Match.
11. SHIMMER Champion "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsCHIF defeated "Portuguese Princess" ARIEL with the Desecrator to retain the SHIMMER Championship (her fifth defense since winning the belt). Immediately after the match concluded, SARA DEL REY stormed the ring and attacked MsCHIF, saying she's coming for her title. SERENA DEEB then hit the ring, both to save MsChif, and bring the fight to Del Rey once again. Senior Referee BRYCE REMSBURG rolled into the ring as Del Rey and Deeb began to fight, and after pausing to think about it, he decided to call for the opening bell, adding an impromptu second main event match to Volume 22.
12. SERENA DEEB defeated SARA DEL REY in the final match of Volume 22 with the spear. The Berwyn fans got behind Serena more than ever as she fought with everything she had to achieve her goal. Del Rey focused the attack on Serena's arm for the duration of the bout, which saw Serena go for the spear on more than one occasion. During the closing moments of the match, Del Rey nailed Deeb with her series of running boots off the ropes, but Serena kept popping back up, fired up more and more, screaming in the face of Del Rey to bring it on. As Del Rey went to hit the ropes again for another boot, Serena followed her, hitting the ropes as well. As Del Rey turned back around in the center of the ring, Serena nailed the spear with great momentum and hooked the leg tightly for the three count, as the Eagles Club crowd erupted! As Serena celebrated her victory, Del Rey worked back to her feet and blindsided Deeb, leading to MsCHIF coming out to save Serena. As MsChif got the better of Del Rey and Serena got back up herself, they went to double team Del Rey by shooting her into the ropes, but LARRY SWEENEY came to ringside and pulled Sara out to the floor. Sweeney quickly escorted Del Rey toward the locker room, shouting that the title would be coming back where it belongs, but not tonight... it'll be in ROH, under his terms. MsChif then raised Serena's hand in victory as Serena's music played to close the show.
ALLISON DANGER thanked the fans for their support as they made their way out of the venue. She announced that though this taping concludes SHIMMER's 2008 Season, SHIMMER will return to action during the spring of 2009 with another taping.
We'd like to extend a huge thank you to the over 200 fans who came out to support the women athletes of SHIMMER live on Sunday in Berwyn. Though we were just under a sellout attendance figure, we realize that times are tough given the current state of the economy, and your continued financial support of independent wrestling during this period is greatly appreciated.
